There are several types of home video security system. There are wired video surveillance systems, wireless, VCR system and IP-based systems. Wired systems can be connected to other security devices like VCR.

 

Wireless systems need televisions or computers to detect and start recording. The IP-based or web-based systems require the use of internet for recording and streaming. Whatever video security system you may choose for your home, you may need similar equipment.

 

For your security surveillance to start working, you may need surveillance cameras, recording or playback device, monitor and motion detector. Of course, cameras are for recording events and activities, the images captured are sent to the playback device for recording, and the monitor provides images to you or to the one in charge with the home video security.

 

High-end security cameras are equipped with infrared sensors to enable the system to see at night. However, their price is also high-end. If you prefer to use non-sensor cameras, you may need to install outdoor lighting so the security cameras can still capture images.
